Perfect Lakonia short sword
Highly Satisfied! Windlass Cobra Steel Lakonia is a superb replica for a Spartan short sword. I’ve had my eye on this for a time and purchased it as a guest to the site. I was at first a little uneasy, from the mixed reviews about the handle being rubber and being on the bulky/heavy side. It shipped within the week and when I received my Lakonia I was astonished by the quality! Rubber handle gives the user a firm grip and is functional!!! Was so pleased it signed up w/ ACC and purchased a 2nd one!!!

The design is superb.
Needs a real edge, no factory edge.

This was somewhat of an impulse buy; I had a little bit of spare cash, and a desire for a nice new piece.
As always, I did my homework; the only thing I didn't like about the blade was it's material.
Given that my blades never receive any meaningful level of punishment, a higher grade stainless steel on a shorter sword didn't seem like much of an issue to me, especially as it has a very solid hilt.
The blade came well on time and in excellent condition. Edge geometry is definitely a secondary bevel, but if you really expect an appleseed edge at this price point, you need to have more realistic expectations.
This little monster feels a bit top-heavy, obviously due to the exaggerated profile taper near the top half of the blade.
A heavier hilt would definitely bring the point of balance further back towards the hand, but it's actually not an issue at all considering how light this little blade is.
The grip isn't pretty, but it's surprisingly comfortable and it doesn't slip around in my hands like some of the cheaper leather wraps I've handled. No complaints there.
The sheath is simple, but effective; the blade can escape it's grasp when inverted, but it still holds fairly well unless shaken.
Overall, I'm incredibly happy with this purchase, my only point of contention is Windlass' decision to change from 1095 high carbon steel, to the X46Cr13 stainless steel for the Cobra Steel line.
I must note: I requested that the item I ordered be inspected for blade symmetry before shipping. The customer service representative at Atlanta Cutlery, Tonya H. (Admin, feel free to approve using her name if that's acceptable company policy) was extremely helpful, she inspected the blade herself, and was professional all the while.
As a final note, I love this little sword, and I'm happy with Atlanta Cutlery's service. I would give this 4.5 stars if possible, but I believe that Windlass' choice of material was the wrong move, so working within this website's limitations, 4 stars is my score.

Great! Good balance, looks good, feels good in the hand. I would not hesitate to carry it into trouble. Nice sheath, like the rubber grip. I also have the Cobra Steel Jambia and like it as well. Probably will get more. I own a lot of Atlanta Cutlery products and recommend them to all my friends.

"Disgusting" was my first reaction out of the box. I has a rubber handle that looks like it belongs on a (cheap) child's toy. That was the good news, the bad news is that the rubber handle is blocky, sticky, creepy, and uncomfortable to use. Good idea poorly executed, it would be a winner with a ergonomic wooden handle. Fit, finish, and sheath good within the price range. Blade seems short, but is historically accurate so no beef there. Semi-sharp, but bevel is established and would not be hard to touch up with a finer stone.
I bought it as a secondary self defense weapon to replace a 14 inch machete. I will try rounding and trimming handle with a belt sander. To replace the handle with wood would be difficult because of the complex design.
Suggestion for Windlass: Same knife with carbon steel and wooden handle.

GREAT blade but handle wasn't well made one side of the handle was way off from the other and the rubber handle needed some shaving to make feel less edgy. Sheath good for carrying. Chops ok for real woods application pretty cool zombie blade though and good steel.

The Cobra Steel Lakonia has met or perhaps exceeded all expectations. It was purchased for my son for Christmas and he loves it. The quality is superb. Solid and ready. The sheath with belt loop is sturdy and constructed appropriately to fit the blade.
Definitely worth the purchase for the $. Now I know why it was on back order. It's popular for a reason.

When I ordered this blade it was on back order for a couple of months, but it was well worth the wait! Took this sword for a "use" test run on compressed cardboard along with several other swords and was thoroughly impressed! It slashed almost as good as a standard machete with stabbing penetration that was unmatched. The rubbery handle allowed absolutely no slip at any time. The hits were absolutely solid with no vibration. I have taken this blade on hiking trips and it works wood wonderfully. I am wholly convinced that this blade cannot be beat for the price and highly recommend it as a survival blade. For those that fixate on sheaths - it is very heavy, riveted leather so if you are like me and splash through rain and rivers you might want to keep it oiled to prevent drying and cracking over time. It is also very tight and will hold water so if you do splash be sure to keep it emptied out. I can understand why the Mediterranean peoples favored this sword type for hundreds of years.

An absolutely perfectly functional, and authentic Spartan shores, sort for what I paid for it. I was expecting much, much less even the leather that the sheik is made out of his top quality and historically accurate! Comes razor-sharp from the factory. I thought I might have to touch it up, but after I got a hold of it, I decided it was already hair popping perfectly balanced. The group is well made! And has a nice tough run a rubbery texture to it! I can definitely understand with the geometry of the blade and the way it slices through things, and that he's that it would be to sharpen it. Why the Spartans chose this sword over the co-ops is there's only one thing that I would warn you about purchasing this it is definitely high carbon becomes in packing grease get the packing grease off before you insert it into the. She's and immediately heated up with a hairdryer and apply thin layer of oil to the entire blade, I failed to do this in three days later had a few spots already start to show up on it so it is definitely high carbon steel above to the spots out applied oval and have had no further problems. It is beautifully balanced and perfectly functional!!!
