US Model 1917 Bolo Knife with Scabbard

Very well made - even then scabbard. Very accurate - looks & feels just like the real thing. They are very good about keeping buyers informed about delivery dates. Highly recommend their knives!

I acquired one of these for professional museum use to save my original from excessive wear.  These are incredibly faithful to the original, and well made for actual field work as intended.  The markings on the leather scabbard tip as well as drain hole (also identically present on my original) were a very nice touch.  A nice addition to a historical collection, exhibit, or unique piece of gear for bushcraft, and handle just as the originals do, sharp and ready to go out of the box. Don’t hesitate to add this to your collection!

The item was exactly as picture. Ordering easy and delivery was very quick.

Bolo Bayonet for the 1903 Springfield Rifle.
There were three models if I recall the first being the Model 1909 or 1910 and a latter one the resembles the 1917 Bolo Knife,  these bayonets were issued to the Phillipino Scouts

I already have one. Really nice, I enjoy bringing the cutting edge to razor sharpness! Without exaggeration I can shave hair off my arm.  So I bought another one. I also built an all leather scabbard for it that can be hung vertically or latterly out of 9-10 leather glued,,sewn and riveted. Respectfully,Bob

I really like this knife.  It has the heft of tool used in the field to clear away brush or dig in soil and hack away tree limbs for camouflaging a position.

I own an original US Model 1917 Bolo Knife, in near mint condition,  issued to my Dad when he was in the USMC from 1922 to 1955, the one from Atlanta Cutlery matches it very, very closely, as does the sheath.

I have several knives a few military one this one is the toughest

Great quality. Incredibly accurate detail.  I have friend that has an original. When I explained where I got it they couldn't believe it.

I am very happy with my Bolo, it is a very authentic looking and high quality WWI - WWII era piece! The history of the Bolo is significant to me because it incorporates a mix of my Wife's Philippine culture and my U.S. culture! I would expect nothing less than the highest of quality from Windlass Steelcrafts, the official maker of the famous Nepalese Gurkha's legendary Kukuris!

This is as close to an exact replica as I have ever seen!  Even the part of the sheath that would normally NEVER be seen!  I imagine a re-enactor would be pleased to have one of these.

Love this knife and scabbard. Seems well made and rugged. Blade does not come "Oops, I cut myself sharp". But can be easily sharpened to that, without a major removal of metal. I would recommend an improvement. The wood grips could use better defined grip grooves. It comes more whittled-like than grooved as the originals did new. Of course over the years these grooves often were hand worn away to less definition. The scabbard comes marked A.K. Co. 1918 R.H.S. . I assume the R.H.S. represents an inspectors initials like Rock Island Arsenal items. Nice touch. Though I am unaware of any A.K. Co making scabbards for these. Of the original 1917 versions (I have seen) they are usually marked Brauer Bros. 1918. Prior to 1917 when Springfield Arsenal made the M1910 and first M1917's, one finds R.I.A. (for Rock Island Arsenal). And the later all metal scabbards marked L.F.C.
Evidently there were improvements done since Jared bought one. There is no welding of blade to tang that I see. And the grips fit well and tight. (no wood putty).
I would recommend this item to someone like myself that re-enacts WW1. Rather than purchasing an expensive original to take to the trenches and battle fields with.
And save the originals (intact) for display collections.

Arrived completely dull. Unlike Jared, handle is in good shape. Since I bought this because it is referenced in a science fiction novel, I can live with its dullness until I sharpen it.

This bolo is absolutely great, I love the Krag-style hanger & if the entire reverse edge was sharp it would remind me of short Gladiolus.  This item is more than worth the price; I highly recomend this one.

Jared - Sorry you had problems with your purchase.  We are looking into the issues you mentioned, in the meantime feel free to return the knife for a refund.

  Sticker on blade says "Made in India". Only sharpened on one side, completely flat on the other side of the blade. Serious issue for such a thick blade. Seems to make the knife twist in my hand with every chop.  Handle is welded to blade to make it full tang...welded very badly.  Not sure if it will stay together. Handles do not fit very well. Filled in with wood-putty to fit. Putty started to fall out as soon as I started chopping. Would have been ok for say $20. Paid $100. Was expecting better quality. Was actually expecting a semi-custom reproduction. Find it hard to believe the original would have been made like this for our troops...even 100 years ago. I hope this is not typical of Windlass Steelcrafts. Bought this knife for combat use but would NOT use it for such without major alterations.Could be made combat worthy with some major grinding and re-welding. The handles would not be much of an issue for combat use but for $100 they should fit without putty. Very disappointing.
