OVERVIEW

Since 1943 these Kukris have been made by one government contractor - Windlass Steelcrafts. The original, official military issue! Hand-forged from high carbon steel, each includes a regulation sheath with 2 accessory knives - the Chakmak & Karda. A must for outdoor activities that require chopping and cutting.

The full profile tang, high carbon steel blade has the traditional religious notch symbolic of the trident (3 pronged spear) of Shiva. The contoured handle is genuine buffalo horn and it has a brass pommel and bolster. Includes leather scabbard with Chakmak & Karda, small accessory knives traditionally used with the Kukri. This powerful chopping knife is issued to Gurkha Officers in India and is the only Kukri on the market that comes with a copy of the government contract, the ordinance drawing, and spec sheet. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts and comes factory sharp.

The accessory knives: The chakmak & karda accessory knives are a traditional part of the kukri. The chakmak has no edge. It is a honing/sharpening tool of hardened “sharpening” steel with a wood handle. This tool is used to is to maintain the kukri edge and ensure it always has a sharp and burr-free edge. The chakmak also makes a great as a striker since the spine is flat and rigid. The karda, on the other hand, does have an edge. This little knife is great for detailed tasks such as skinning, carving, or whittling.

The scabbard: The scabbard is designed to have a slightly loose fit and is intended to be worn with the blade-tip down. Because of the extreme compound curvature of the blade, a conventional tight fit would make the knife very difficult to remove without cutting through the scabbard and possibly the hand holding it. Additionally, the wood lining in the sheath may absorb moisture and swell in humid conditions; this must be accounted for when the scabbard is made.

So disappointed - useless display piece
In addition to a dull blade -- an easy if unfortunate failing -- the hilt does not remain secure when sheathed. Subtle movements will send the kukir, already loose in the scabbard, tumbling to the ground. A major liability, and as lieutenant in the forces, a real disappointment. 8

Perfect!
This is one sweet Kukri.  Very impressed with the workmanship, fit and finish, balance, and blade sharpness.  I really like it.  It's perfect! A great kukri at a reasonable price!

A simple work of art
A beautiful, hefty blade. Not sharpened (yet) until my boy is older.

Lots of concerns.
I bought 3, the spine widths are different. The length of the spines is different. I paid for sharpening on one and can't tell the difference.

The butt plate is loose on one.

Falls out of Sheath... not even close to keeping it in safe and secure.

Windlass Officer kukhri
Good knives, Ive owned/own several Windlass kuks.. no complaints whatsoever, especially for the price! They have all worked well in the field, camping etc.. Mine have all come duller than Sunday Service! Used a file and stone to bring them up to snuff, edgewise. This to be expected on knives of this type and not a problem. Could have taken them to a professional sharpener but since Im able to do my own work, it's a non-issue, beside I prefer doing my own edges as I can micro-control the edge angles.
Have spent LOTS more $$$ on khukris the last 40 years or so, and not necessarily gotten the quality Windlass offers IMO.  These and the larger khuks make excellent camping and "self-defense" type knives for not a lot of money. Sure you can spend lots more for such a knife (and I have done so), but better quality for the money, not so much.

Excellent Knife
Purchased for son. Now time to get one for me.
Is there a leather cover for the scabbard tip. The tip is really sharp and it is carried on a 4 wheeler while working in the pasture

Another great kukri
This is the third kukri I've ordered for myself recently.  I've actually ordered a pair of the Assam Rifles kukris for my wife and myself, and then a pair of this model.  When I'm honing and stropping blades, it's been a whole lot harder to get the razor edge on this model, so I suspect the RC hardness is a little higher on the model, which is awesome, because edge retention!
This model is also a nice size.  When you want a big knife, but not THAT big, this one works well.  The handle is small.  My hands are smallish, and the handle feels like it was made for me.  When I tape measure from the bolster to the tip, it rings in right at 9.5-inches.  So, it's a biggish knife that itsn't annoying to wear around the house or campsite.
Plus, the Windlass kukris are unbelievable for the price.  Quit reading reviews and order one (or two) already!

For the money I have to say 5 stars.  Although the first thing I want to say is the factory edge is no edge at all.  So know you are taking on a REAL sharpening project with this one.  That aside it is very well put together and took a great edge.  I have a few kukris and I was attracted to the smaller size of this one.  Very happy with this purchase.

A nice, well balanced, and made Kukri. The blade was well sharpened and is very sharp.  The scabbard is made of excellent quality leather as well.

Satisfied with this Kukri in all respects.

Well Done!

Damn solid knife, could take a mans head off with ease and certainly comes in handy for foliage. A bit oddly balanced and honestly, the sheath was much too big, allowing the knife to move around a bit, but overall it's a solid blade.
