OVERVIEW

In this harrowing journey, Bilbo and his Company of Dwarves come upon a troll lair in Rhûdaur. There they find two Elven swords, Glamdring and Orcrist, and a knife. Bilbo claims the knife for himself and names it “Sting”, although it was more of a sword to someone of his stature. This authentically detailed replica is a reproduction of the actual filming prop. The Sting sword features a stainless steel blade, solid metal hilt parts and an intricately detailed vine adorning the grip. It is presented with a wood wall display featuring graphic motifs from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, and includes a certificate of authenticity. Scabbard available separately.

Feel like an adventure?
I recently watched the Hobbit trilogy, and finally succumbed to my desire to own a Sting replica.

This sword is very satisfying. You'll read a number of reviews online where people are nit-picking various aspects of the construction, and to a certain extent they'll be correct. If you're a sword purist, if you have an opinion about different grinds or tang types, then perhaps you'll be unsatisfied. But if you're a Lord of the Rings fan, if you want a sword that makes you feel like Bilbo heading off into the wilderness, then go for it.

If you forced me to express a more detailed opinion about the sword, I will say that the handle is the least satisfying thing. It's some sort of plastic with a wood and vine pattern painted onto it. If I stop what I'm doing and really pay attention to the handle, then I'm not impressed with it. But when I'm holding it, I don't really care that it's not real wood.

Another drawback is that the blade is stainless steel, which means much easier maintenance (no rust!) but technically the blade is not well suited for actual cutting use because it's more brittle than true blade steel and could break. Here's an easy solution - don't hit anything hard with the sword.

All told, I am very happy with my replica Sting sword. It makes me feel like a kid again.

Elvish Steel
What a fine display weapon this is. I can hardly wait to take it on a quest. Mountains, Gandalf, I want to see mountains! Meanwhile, I've been watching for a blue glow. Nope! No orcs in my neighborhood. You will be pleased with the quality of this item. I got the scabbard, as well.
