OVERVIEW

Each hand-crafted Irish Shillelagh walking cane is unique. Harvested and made in Ireland as they have been for centuries. Famously made from the tough, local blackthorn shrub each shillelagh is selected for its superior weight to hardness ratio. Each is hand sanded and lacquered with a high gloss finish. Today they are used by farmers for herding sheep or cattle, or simply as outdoor walking companions - many are considered family heirlooms. Smaller versions were so tough they were considered rural Ireland’s national weapon. How’s that for naturally tough? Each is finished with a weather friendly copper tip. If you wish to use this cane indoors, we suggest you buy a rubber tip from a local drugstore. Due to the unique nature of each no two are alike and the handle will vary in shape due to blackthorn’s natural growth patterns. Not meant to be used for medical purposes.

Reasonable quality for the price
Lightweight. The stick I received was about 245 grams, or about 8.6 oz. No issues using it as a walking stick for extra balance and stability.

However, I will note that when I experimentally leaned more of my body weight into the cane though, the shaft started to bend, which is a contrast to some of the stronger walking sticks I've used.

The surface feels like it's covered with some protective lacquer which should help a bit with the elements.

A note about the copper tip: at least for the stick I received, the copper does NOT cover the bottom of the stick, which is somewhat disappointing.

I wish it had more of a larger root for my big hands. The bulb at the top would have been more to my liking.

Each cane varies greatly but seem to be real blackthorn. Yes they have a paint of some sort applied I believe as a sealant and preservative but all and all very nice piece. In fact I've purchased two and each have there own character.

Junk! Don't buy. It is not made from genuine blackthorn shrub! It is just some hardwood painted black. Very light and not sturdy. Save your $$$$!
