This Coyote Jaw Obsidian Blade Knife is handmade by master artist Dale Duby using the methods of old; grinding, abrading, percussion, and pressure flaking. Please note: Obsidian color may vary from the photo. We are not able to guarantee a specific obsidian color. Obsidian is formed from the erupted lava of a volcano. Although black is the most common color, it can be brown, tan, or green. When hematite (iron oxide) is present, it produces red and brown varieties. If tiny gas bubbles remained in the lava flow during crystallization, green varieties were created, as well as others with a golden sheen, or types with dark bands or mottling in gray, green, or even yellow.
